“Save the cheerleader, save the world.” - Hero
You may recall the television program, Heroes, which aired from 2006 to 2010. The phrase above served as a consistent theme for the show, as it was the cheerleader who would save the world by ending the ultimate threat to the world, Syrus.
I frequently see many people of all walks of life, age, education, race, and religions proclaim their mission to “save the world.” I have even witnessed spiritual gurus, the most praised and self-professed spiritual leaders of our world today preach and plead out to the masses that they only want to save the world.
“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose
I, however, suggest this, that the world actually need not saving. That there are no cheerleaders who require saving, so that they in turn can save the world. That even the most altruistic among us need not take on the cross of Jesus or the red cape of SuperMan to save the world. That in actuality such a proposition stands in opposition to the universal law of allowance.
The law of allowance states, in simple terms, that in order to dissipate that which we do not desire, we must allow it. You are probably familiar with the adage, “That which we resist, persists.” Consider, if you will, Chinese handcuffs – the more you try to pull-apart…the more you resist, the tighter those things become. J. K. Rowling addresses the law of allowance in The Sorcerer’s Stone when Harry, Ron, and Hermoine innately struggle against Devil’s Snare before Hermoine realizes that the only way through the snare is through non-resistance (a/k/a allowance).
Now, by no means am I suggesting that we hide our heads in the sand like a herd of ostriches choosing to remain in ignorance, or that we observe the tragedies, hardships, and struggles of those around us and around the globe and shrug our shoulders in a compassionless and cold-hearted attitude of “dog-eat-dog whatevs.”
Rather, beautiful, I suggest that you are the key to saving this world. You are the cheerleader, you, and you, and you, and you. All that is needed to make the world a more beautiful, kind, peaceful, abundant, compassionate, loving and elevated planet is for each of us individually to choose to relax into allowance…relax into that space of inner peace….relax into self-compassion…relax into self-love and adoration…relax into being.
What I am proposing sounds counter-intuitive, blasé, even ignorant perhaps - all rainbows, butterflies and unicorns? I get it. You think I have checked out of “reality.” But here is what I have come to understand. When we turn inward, create and cultivate the qualities of allowance, faith and inner-peace, self-compassion, self-love and adoration, when we respect our own life, those qualities over-flow and the next thing we know we become more allowing of others, more at ease and at peace with our life experience and the life experience of others, we become less judgmental and more compassionate, we become more loving of others, we respect and honor all lives.
From this space we “change the world,” not because we seek to change the world but because we ourselves have become changed.
